Dear 4-H members, leaders and parents,

We have some exciting information to share with you!  We are in the process of starting two new 4-H Clubs in our county, one at the Pt. Hueneme Navy SeaBee Base, and the other at Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station!  We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring 4-H programming to the children of our military families stationed at these two bases.  Starting 4-H Clubs at military bases is actually a joint operation with the military and National 4-H.  Army, Navy, and Air Forces bases in the US and around the world will have 4-H Club programs available for the youth of our brave military personnel.  When and if a military family is transferred from one base to another, the kids will have something familiar at their new base, a 4-H Club!

As we start the two clubs at our local bases, we will be asking for your help in introducing the military youth to our 4-H Program.  For instance, on Friday, May 15th, from 6-9 p.m., the staff at Pt. Mugu children’s center and 4-H Office staff will be conducting a 4-H Open House to show the families on the base what 4-H is all about.  We will have several hands-on activities, in what we call a “Skill-a-thon” format.  If you would like to help us with this by leading an activity at one of the skill-a-thon tables, please let me know.  If you would like to do a demonstration, or show kids how to start a record book, contact me as soon as possible.  If you would like to answer questions about 4-H (at an information table), give me a call!  There are lots of ways that you can participate!

If you cannot help on May 15th, there will be other opportunities to help these two groups as they start their 4-H Clubs.  Many of the families on the bases will not be directly involved in the 4-H Program, but could also benefit from our program.  Remember them as you plan your community service projects throughout the year.

If you have any questions or would like to help on May 15th, please contact me at the number below.

Thanks!

Susan
