New Year, New Pests

New Year, New Pests

Every year, invasive pests cause billions of dollars of damage to California agricultural systems and natural areas. These pests can be weeds, plant pathogens, insects, vertebrates, shellfish and other aquatic species. There are many invasive species of concern in our state including yellow starthistle, brown marmorated stink bug, and Asian Citrus Psyllid. Additionally, agencies such as the California Department of Food and Agriculture monitor the status of potential pests that may be introduced to California and become invasive. Some examples are the Asian Giant Hornet and the Spotted Lanternfly.

Learn more about invasive species in California and how you can prevent their spread at our monthly webinar on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 12:00pm PST. Register in advance. Webinars are free and open to the public. You can find more information about invasive pests on our website.
