California Laurel Aphid

California laurel aphid is found on the undersurface of the leaves and is a small (a sixteenth of an inch diameter) ball which is gray-white. The aphids tend to line up along the mid-vein and lateral veins of the leaf. As the aphids feed, they produce honeydew, and the sooty mold uses the honeydew as a food source. The aphids may be controlled with a spray of summer (narrow range) oil and insecticidal soap. Thorough coverage of all surfaces of the tree is important. Also pay some attention to ant control around the base of the tree as ants will very likely reintroduce the aphids back onto the tree.
Use all plant protection products according to label instructions for best results.
