UC scientist received prestigious award for agricultural communication

The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology presented 2014 Borlaug CAST Communication Award to Alison Van Eenennaam, UC Cooperative Extension specialist in the Department of Animal Science at UC Davis, according to Beef Magazine. Receipt of the award demonstrates Van Eenennaam's ability to communicate by written material, public presentations, and/or the use of television, radio, or other social media.

As a specialist in the field of animal genomics and biotechnology, Van Eenennaam is at the forefront of those delivering clear, science-based information to the public and policymakers alike, the article said. Van Eenennaam has an active research and extension program and has worked extensively relaying information about agriculture and food production to the public. She has given more than 250 presentations around the world and has appeared on national media outlets including the Dr. Oz Show, Animal Planet, and NPR.

An award presentation will take place at the World Food Prize Symposium, Oct. 15 in Des Moines, Iowa.
