The Agricultural Best Practices Instructor (Community Education Specialist 4) will focus primarily on developing, conducting, managing, and evaluating an education program to increase the impact of extension programs in Ventura County. The instructor will be responsible for the delivery of hands-on training on best practices in irrigation and nutrient management, spray application technology, farm worker safety, and other relevant topics to farm workers in Ventura County. This includes direct program delivery, evaluating program implementation and outcomes, collecting and compiling enrollment, evaluating data from participants and writing reports. Programs will take place in small to medium-sized groups in classroom and field settings on local farms. As a technical leader, the CES 4 will function with a high degree of autonomy to coordinate with UC ANR Advisors and academic specialists, and externally with Pest Control Advisers, Certified Crop Advisers, growers and other stakeholders to develop the curriculum and course materials, and maintain subject matter competence. The CES 4 will foster and maintain an informal network of partners and will implement special projects that advance the program's objectives, while coordinating statewide educational activities with ANR collaborators based in different counties. The trainings will be designed to improve water, fertilizer and pesticide use efficiency, to support growers in addressing environmental regulation requirements, and to promote farm worker safety and environmental sustainability. Each training module will provide attendees with a certificate of completion, in an effort to facilitate regulatory requirements by state agencies, such as the State Water Resources Control Board and Department of Pesticide Regulation.
This position is a career appointment that is 100% fixed.
Pay Scale: $59,000.00/year to $81,200.00/year
This position will promote, in all ways consistent with the other responsibilities of the position, accomplishment of the Affirmative Action goals established by the Division.
