If you followed the news over the summer, you likely came across headlines like these: Australia's Plague of Mice Is Devastating and Could Get a Lot Worse (Scientific American), Millions of Mice are Terrorizing Australia (VICE News) or Mouse Plague Deals Fresh Blow to Australian farmers (BBC News).
The mouse population explosion in Australia wasn't unexpected – years of drought followed by widespread rains had led to similar spikes in the past – yet the scale and impact of this summer's outbreak caused serious damage and made global headlines.
December's IPM Hour will take a closer look at rodents and the future of rodent control without the use of anti-coagulant rodenticides. Niamh Quinn, a Human-Wildlife Interactions Advisor with the University of California, will present on Rats, Rodenticide and Research, including an overview on recent rodenticide legislation in California, rodenticide exposure of non-target wildlife and ongoing research to explore mitigation measures.
The IPM Hour will be live December 8 at noon Pacific.
