Tomato Leaves Turning Yellow
If the vine is growing well, the lower leaves may be shaded and in a normal decline. If, however, the plant is generally looking light green and growing slowly with small fruit, the yellowing of older leaves could be due to nitrogen deficiency. Sandy Central Coast soils are often lacking in adequate nitrogen and other nutrients for good plant growth. Give the plant several light applications of “plant food” over a period of a week or two. If it is nutrient-deficient, you should begin to see a response in a week to 10 days. Follow directions on the fertilizer product you buy and do not overdose. Excess fertilizer can do more harm than good.
